UPDATE 2/26/16: Rikki is ADOPTED!
New York, NY – Dec. 28, 2015: Rikki was found as a stray on Oct. 24th by Officers King and Stapleton from the NYPD 34th Police Precinct, who responded to a call about a dog left tied to a bench behind PS 5. This sweet and affectionate, approx. 5 year old female pit bull, entered the shelter with very red and irritated eyes and skin, as well as old scars all over her face that tell a story of a dog who may not have had the best life. Her eyes have been treated and her skin irritations, presumably from allergies, are already beginning to improve and can only get better from here with a healthy diet.
Rikki was also suffering from the early stages of pneumonia, as a result of picking up an upper respiratory infection while at the shelter, and was admitted to The Animal Medical Center this afternoon, Nov 9th. Rikki has since made a full recovery and has also been spayed.
We don’t know Rikki’s past and therefore won’t speculate what it may have been, but we know for certain her future will be much brighter, filled with the love and attention she has deserved all along. Rikki loves everyone she meets and would do best in a home without other dogs and with children over the age of 15.
