Update – Oct. 7: Garlic has been ADOPTED!
GARLIC joins our One Lucky Pup rescue, rehabilitation and adoption program as a rescue from NYC ACC. He previously lived with his sister outside for his entire life, 5 years, before being surrendered to Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) after his owners decided they no longer needed him because their warehouse was closing. Garlic’s previous owners were dishonest or ignorant about the origin of his medical issues and skull deformities which resulted in inaccurate vetting at the city shelter, which deterred adoption interest. Garlic became a Must-Pull on the At-Risk list once he developed a URI.
Upon rescuing him, we admitted Garlic to The Animal Medical Center for immediate diagnostics and treatment for early pneumonia. A CT scan confirmed the bone growth on his skull, which caused his extremely misshapen head, was benign, a condition called calvarial hyperostosis which is a developmental abnormality. Because Garlic has already reached full skeletal maturity, it should not grow any further or cause other issues. Our ophthalmologist determined his left eye, while blind, doesn’t need to be removed. He was neutered and placed in foster care in NJ with foster mom Beth, and her dog Tobey. Garlic is as sweet as they come, gentle with all people, kids, cats and other dogs and allows all handling.
Garlic is ready for adoption now and can’t wait to give tons of love! He is a total sweetheart!
Are you willing to look past Garlic’s physical differences and give him the home he very much deserves? If so, please fill out our adoption application or email elli@mrbonesandco.org for more information. Thank you!
