Tied to a Fence with Serious Injuries
March 2016 — Princess Grace was one of those cases that breaks your heart twice before her impending recovery promises to stitch it back together. Found tied to a fence in Brooklyn, NY she had been the victim of a brutal, ongoing attack by one or more dogs. A social-media post went up moments after she was discovered, and we were tagged with a plea for help. Within an hour we were standing beside her, and the decision was immediate: she would enter our One Lucky Pup rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption program. We transported her straight to the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan for emergency care.
Grace underwent surgery to repair her severely injured face and jowl. During her week in the hospital, we visited daily to learn more about her personality, better understand her temperament, and determine what kind of home best allow her to heal and flourish. When she was finally discharged, she moved into one of our dedicated foster homes where we continued her rehabilitation for three weeks. Her recovery was nothing short of extraordinary, something beautifully captured in her portrait session with photographer Sophie Gamand.
Grace was adopted by Tanya, who gave her the world in honor of her dog who had recently passed. These days she goes by Gracie and is a master of dog tricks, and helper dog in her local community. You can follow her at @iheartPGracieÂ
