SUGAR PLUM, our two-year-old throwaway mama, has come a long way since we pulled her from our city shelter on New Years Eve and Ruff Post Photo Editor Gabriela Landazuri Saltos captured her beautifully!
This petite 38lb. Chocolate Lab/Am Staff mix was still lactating when she was abandoned without her babies. We were surprised to learn she is also heartworm positive. Given the absence of microfilaria bacteria in her blood our vet believes her heartworm case is relatively new,… which would indicate she came up from the South and may not have been from Brooklyn to begin with. She is halfway through the first portion of her treatment and will be just fine!
While we do not know her origins or her past she doesn’t appear to be dwelling on anything negative and is having a ball with foster parents Lizzie and Will in Manhattan! Our sweet girl is an affectionate cuddler who is working on her basic manners and doing very, very well! SUGAR PLUM is dog friendly but prefers not to be around cats. She would love a home with active humans who like walking, hiking and/or running.
SUGAR PLUM is beautifully crate trained, housebroken and walks well on leash.
