Reaching out to shelters helps on so many levels as well as extend joint care for dogs. Not only does it enable us to stay on top of their current needs and to understand how they function, but it’s a logical action that enables us to brainstorm some ideas that might help them reach their goals, whether it’s adoption awareness or spay/neuter education. As an added bonus, we get some extra cuddle time with animals who don’t seem to mind getting cozy with us!
Our first major outreach initiative was in April 2014 for Yonkers Animal Shelter in Yonkers, NY. We produced a neuter-a-thon, a Two For One Ball Drive that resulted in 13 dogs and 4 cats being neutered in one day! The community joined in on the effort and donated new sports balls and equipment for a local youth program in need. The day was made possible by the very generous Dr. Daniel Spector and Dr. Rebecca Webb from Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, who donated their time and talent in full. We are especially grateful to The Toby Project for donating the use of their mobile unit so that we could perform the procedures.
If you have an idea for your local shelter, or if you represent a shelter in need, please contact us and share your thoughts. We’ll put our heads and tails together to see if we can come up with a plan!Donate to Shelter Outreach
