UPDATE: Max was adopted shortly after we pulled him into out rescue, then was returned through no fault of his own (his family is dealing with personal issues) on August 6. He is currently in foster care in Manhattan and is waiting his forever home. Max is dog and kid friendly, but is a large dog and will need a home who is committed to positively reinforcing his manners training!
New York, NY – May 10, 2016: MAX came to us after we were contacted by the folks at The Dodo and asked if we could help a dog that had been forced to live in an NYC basement almost his entire life. Max’s previous owner, an apartment building superintendent, purchased him and then neglected him, leaving him in a dark corner of the building’s basement for days on end without seeing him. A tenant in the building, Tamir, noticed him and began to take him for walks and do what he could with him.
After the super was fired, he promptly abandoned Max and Max was at risk of being removed and taken to our city’s open intake kill shelter. Rather than see a 91lb. dog with very little manners go a route that would put him a great risk, we met Max and almost immediately agreed to take him into our One Lucky Pup program. We had him better for the first time ever, neutered and began to work with him on basic manners training.
Max is currently in foster care, but there is news on the horizon for this lovable, block headed meatball!
